Café and Barbecue

Our café is set in a charming traditional barn, where you can relax and enjoy a coffee break in an authentic Småland setting. You can choose to sit upstairs in the loft or outside with a lovely view of the moose park.
During peak season, we offer coffee, tea, cold drinks, pastries, and ice cream. You are also welcome to bring your own picnic.
For those who want to grill, there are several barbecues in the park. Sausages can be purchased in the Moose Lodge – currently, several varieties are available, including the popular Moose Grill Sausage, a favorite for both kids and adults.

The Moose Lodge – Shop

Located in the same barn as the café, our Moose Shop is a beautiful store full of moose-themed souvenirs to take home. There’s something for everyone, from fun items for children to rustic keepsakes for your home.

You’ll find items such as:

  • Moose antlers and t-shirts with moose motifs

Moose safari

Our moose safaris run with 2 to 9 wagons, each seating around 16 people. The wagons have roofs and partially open sides, allowing you to get very close to the moose to feed and pet them – all while staying safe and comfortable. Small children are welcome to sit on an adult’s lap, and there is space for wheelchairs. Our staff is happy to help with getting on and off the wagons. Please note: umbrellas should be left in the car, as moose are easily startled by them.

What can I experience in the park?

In addition to our popular safari rides, during summer you can explore the Bunny Trail and meet Flemish Giant rabbits, goats, and mini pigs. There’s also a playground for energetic kids and plenty of picnic areas to relax and enjoy your day.

Is there food and refreshments?

Yes! In our shop, you can buy sausages to grill over the open fires scattered throughout the park. During summer we also offer coffee, pastries and ice cream. You’re also welcome to bring your own picnic – there’s plenty of space to sit and enjoy your meal.

Tickets and pre-booking

Book your safari under “Opening Hours & Booking.” Occasionally, extra tours are added, so keep an eye on the calendar! The time listed is the start of the safari, so please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early.

When are you open?

The park's opening hours vary by season. The shop opens one hour before the first tour of the day and remains open for about 30 minutes after the last tour. Check “Opening Hours & Booking” for today’s schedule.

How do I get to you?

Virum Moose Park is located about 30 minutes south of Vimmerby in Småland. Enter “Össebo 520, Vimmerby” into your GPS for directions. A more detailed map is available under the “How to Find Us” section on our this website.

Can you pet the moose?

Absolutely! During the safari we stop, so you can pet and feed the moose, and even steal a kiss if you're lucky.

Can you walk around freely among the moose?

Our lovely moose are very friendly, but they still are wild animals. During the tour you remain safely in the wagons. But, the moose know that wagons mean treats – we provide potatoes for feeding, and they happily come over to enjoy them.

What is a drop-in ticket and can I buy tickets on site?

For regular safari tours, 20–60 drop-in tickets are available, depending on the time of year. These tickets can only be purchased on the day of the tour. Online-booked guests are seated first, and drop-in guests are admitted in the order they purchase their tickets.

Can I take the bus to you?

Unfortunately, no – there is no public transport available to the park.

What can I expect from the safari?

The experience varies with the season: Winter: The bulls usually keep their distance, but you can admire their impressive size from a safe vantage point. Spring: Antlers have fallen, and the bulls may look almost like cuddly teddy bears. May–June: Calves are born, and moose cows keep a bit of distance with their young. Summer: Moose are generally very curious about the wagons and come close to meet you. On hot days they take turns cooling down in the shade. Autumn: In September, the bulls become excited by the rut and are moved to their own enclosure. In the safari park, you will instead meet our moose cows and calves.
